The Mill, Alveley (Shropshire); CEMP, Reptile, Badger, Otter and Water Vole Surveys
Destroyed by fire in May 2015, the former Mill Hotel in Alveley featured a historic 16th century flour mill and had been operating as a wedding venue with accommodation.
The site’s new owners, Ben and Sarah Reeves of Ensarb Limited, are no strangers to challenging projects; in the past ten years, they have successfully transformed a derelict farm and a neglected Victorian country house into award-winning West Midlands wedding venues, namely, The Ashes Barns and Pendrell Hall Country House.
Their spectacular redevelopment of the former Mill Hotel site is well underway and The Mill Barns wedding venue opens in Summer 2017.
This brand-new waterfront venue offers couples exclusive-use of three magnificent oak framed wedding barns, luxury onsite accommodation, eight acres of mature landscaped gardens, mesmerizing water features and a unique walkway taking in three stunning outdoor terraces.
Ensarb were keen to use local suppliers wherever available, and BiOME were duly appointed to discharge a number of ecology related planning conditions prior to redevelopment. Baseline surveys identified a number of features of potential ecological importance; a Construction Ecological Management Plan (CEMP) was therefore produced to detail the mechanisms that would be employed to ensure no adverse effects or breaches of legislation occurred. To inform this CEMP, Otter, Badger and Water Vole surveys were completed, including the development site and relevant buffer zones.
We wish Ensarb all the best with this project.
